It is easy to get the things that make you happy and at the same time difficult to get the things that are not necessary for happiness. Luxury versions of some basic products such as an expensive car, a holiday home in an exotic place, a pair of shoes from a very famous brand, etc. it takes time and money not only to get them but also to maintain them.

It is true that all these things cause us pleasure (who would not like it) but it is very important not to become addicted to them. If we are greedy and want more than we need, then our chances of being happy begin to decline. If we long only for luxurious objects, for material things that we do not necessarily need, then it will be more and more difficult for us to be happy, to satisfy our desires. No pair of shoes, no very expensive bag, will be perfect enough, no car will be fast enough, no house will be big enough, and we will always want more and more, thus forgetting to we enjoy what we already have.

We will always want more and more, because the pleasure produced by any material object decreases as we get used to it, and once we become familiar with that product we begin to no longer perceive it as beautiful. For example, buying the much-desired car gives us great satisfaction at first, but sooner or later it will be as uninteresting as the old car, we had before. And so we begin to think about the next car that will be ours, and we make it the car of our dreams.

The line of desires is endless, and so we are caught in this vicious circle of consumption that forces us to buy products as extravagant as possible, to constantly maintain our level of satisfaction.

As time passes faster, there is that moment when satisfaction turns into indifference and then into dissatisfaction, and finally into anxiety. And when we get the thing we want, we ask ourselves: Why aren’t we happy, though, if we get what we want?

It is proven that luxury products, material objects in general, do not satisfy us, as they satisfy our desires only for a short period of time. So, the secret of happiness would be to reach that state of reconciliation in which we would no longer need to satisfy any pleasure, we would no longer feel the need to fulfill any desire, and to be happy with what we already have.

Most of the time we start looking for pleasure when we suffer. When we decide on certain desires, we do not judge by the desire itself, but by what is good in our lives. But with a clear and healthy mind, we will find that simple things can bring the same satisfaction or even more than expensive items.

And once we get used to it, we will live even better and we will be happier because we will be able to appreciate more expensive things when we get them and if we get them.
